Bernardo Watch: Spending the Taxpayers' Money

Of the 23 members of the Ulster Legislature, just four are new to the job. So why the hell do the Bernardos want the taxpayers to foot the bill for a full legislative session, if the only thing on the agenda is a review of Robert's Rules of Order? It's idiotic, especially when you consider the expense:
"I don’t get it,” said Legislator Richard Parete, D-Marbletown. “I think Robert’s Rules are important, and I’ve taken it upon myself to become familiar with them, but I don’t know if this is something that needs to be done in a special meeting, where our clerks and attorneys have to be present and (legislators) are paid mileage.”
You're not the only one who is trying to figure out what the hell the "fiscally conservative" Bernardos are up to, Rich.

  1. AS SEEN IN FREEMAN:
Is this Mrs. Len Bernardo acknowledging that she needs the training? From what I have seen, she does. If you need the training, get it, do not force the taxpayers to pay for it. It is part of the job for which they are already getting paid.
Who will Mrs. Len Bernardo be hiring? An expert from some other County besides Ulster? Mrs. Len Bernardo seems to have a penchant for shopping/hiring anywhere but Ulster.

  3. 5:58 -- If your Bernardo prediction is even close to accurate, let's hope the sun goes supernova soon so it spares us the pain of the next decade. Something tells me Bernardo will go supernova first.

  4. "why the hell do the Bernardos want the taxpayers to foot the bill for a full legislative session, if the only thing on the agenda is a review of Robert's Rules of Order?"

Let us start with this question first: why the hell do we have a chairperson of the Ulster County Legislature who does not know the Robert's Rules of Order?

I guess that I am either a fool or have an amazing desire to better myself and my employer; I take the time to read and educate myself regarding the industry that I work in on my own time. I don't do it to impress my boss or make more money. I do it to because I take pride in what I do. I work in the private sector and have this desire and Mrs. Bernardo works for the taxpayers and continues to suck the life out of us!

  6. Go to Barnes& Noble (in Kingston please) buy 10 copies and give them to just the legislators that can read. You should have some left that Langdon can bring back to his office

  7. 5:58 - funny as hell! 7:56 - good question. Why doesn't Bernardo know Robert's Rules? All elected officials are invited to these training sessions held in Albany when they're first elected.

  8. Candidate questionnaire.

Question #1 Have you read the Ulster County Charter and do you understand the role and responsibilities of an Ulster County Legislator?

Question #2 Are you familiar with Robert's Rules of Order? If not,
will you become familiar with them prior to taking the oath of office?

Those 2 questions will eliminate 20 of 23 Legislators, including the current Chairman.
